With this post as well with others to follow I want to tell you a bit more about the different healing modalities that I practice and offer for your wellbeing. I kick this off with Reiki, as it was the first I encountered on my personal healing path and changed my life for the better and enriched it in more ways than I can explain.
I tell you a bit about my own personal story first and how it all came about. Over the years I have been asked a lot of times.
I discovered Reiki several years ago. Well, one could say it was by chance, another one might say it was the universe telling me it was time.
I had been in Ireland for some time and worked in these big open plan offices of the IT world. The air conditioning wasn’t really helping my sensitive immune system and I was constantly struggling with my physical but also mental wellbeing. I have to say that since childhood I had recurrent bladder and kidney infections and if it wasn’t those, a tonsillitis waited just around the corner. Over the years I went to a lot of health practitioners and even had surgery. But none of it really helped. I was fine for a while and then the bladder infection would come back. As doctors had no better options I was on antibiotics a lot.
And when I worked in the open plan offices with constant pressure on performance and evaluation it got worse. One could say I was 5-6 times a year on antibiotics. My body didn’t have a chance to properly build up a strong immune system before the next infection. I started to get really frustrated with being sick all the time as a young adult who wanted to explore the world.
One evening we went out for dinner with a couple of friends to celebrate the birthday of a friend. At some stage a girl in the group offered us free passes to the Mind Body Spirit fair in the RDS in Dublin coming up shortly after. She had passes as she had her own stall that year to promote her healing services. Until then I had not been in touch with the what they call “the new age scene” at all. I surely knew about it, but it wasn’t for me. Good for them, but I am fine over here… 😊 As I didn’t have anything else to do and I was curious so I took 2 tickets from her.
The day came and a friend and me went down to the fair. Both of us were pretty stressed out because of challenges at work and our health in general wasn’t too great. I didn’t know what to expect.
In the big exhibition room they had lots of stalls where you could try different healing therapies, buy books, incense and oils, performances were on display in the central space and also talks were offered. It was an intriguing experience alright! It was very busy and lots of people were roaming about.
I had heard about Reiki before but I couldn’t quite grasp what it actually meant or did. There was a stall of the Reiki Federation Ireland and I was curious. I knew that if I didn’t try it here I most likely wouldn’t do it in the outside world. The step felt very big. So I sat down on this chair in the busy and noisy room and closed my eyes. This nice lady worked the energy on me and I wasn’t sure whether anything was happening while I sat there. It was good to relax for a couple of minutes after running around the fair for a while. Only when I opened my eyes and got up from the chair I really felt something had happened. Something deep. I was stunned speechless. I felt this inner peace I hadn’t felt in years. I needed time to process.
I was glad that my friend dragged me into a talk. I didn’t care which one at that point. If I hadn’t been in this stunned state I most likely wouldn’t have chosen this one: “Am I psychic?” lead by Heidi Sawyer. While I was absorbing what just happened during the few minutes of the Reiki treatment I listened to Heidi talking about the different signs of being a sensitive person and how to deal with it. I couldn’t believe my ears, it was as if she was talking about me!!! Crazy!!
Soon after the fair I looked for a Reiki practitioner nearby my home to follow up with a full session and explore this curious thing further. I found this lovely lady I connected with immediately and I went for several sessions. Wow, the effects were mind blowing! I felt how something was healing inside of me. Something deep I couldn’t put a name to. As she was also a teacher and offered a beginner’s course shortly after, it was a natural decision to sign up for it. I was hooked! There was something about it that strung a loud and cheerful chord inside me that I couldn’t overhear!
And the rest, as they say, is history! My overall health improved, the infections stopped, and I was much more balanced and happier. I was given some tools how to deal with my spiritual, emotional, mental and physical needs and it changed my world forever. I underwent the complete training to Master and teacher levels in Reiki and also explored another energy healing technique called Seichem.
But enough about me now. So what now is Reiki?
Well, I have to mention beforehand that it is one of these things you can read hundreds of books about and you still don’t get it. You need to experience it to truely understand.

Reiki is an ancient, non-intrusive energy healing method revitalising body, mind and spirit.
It is a complementary hands-on therapy that helps the body to help itself by providing energy to the different chakras, the energy centres of the body. Reiki restores the energy balance and harmony and can benefit everyone, even new borns, animals and plants.
Evidence has found that light energy was already known to the ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Mayans. The origins seem to trace back to the north of India and Tibet around 6000 BC.
Reiki, an energy healing technique, as we know and use it today was founded by the Japanese scholar Dr. Mikao Usui (1865 – 1926). After an experience of enlightenment he discovered the healing energy of light. He first treated local beggars and taught them how to do it, but he recognized soon that they were not practising it. Soon after this he started teaching Reiki to a few people, who then in time passed on the knowledge to their students.
The Japanese word Reiki is composed by the syllables “Rei” meaning “universal” and “ki” for “life force”. Therefore Reiki is a “method to activate the universal life force”.
Life force, also called Qi by the Chinese or Prana in India, is an essential part of our being, in fact of all living beings. To be able to enjoy maximum health and well-being, all parts of us – our body, mind and spirit – require to be “in tune”. Reiki helps to achieve that.

To give you a more visual example.
Imagine the energy within you flowing like a big wild river, a majestic one. The water flows freely and wild. That’s when you feel powerful, like you can do anything you want, you feel vital and healthy in every way and you are on top of the world! Woohoo!
But as life goes on and not so great things might happen, like you have a physical complaint or someone says bad things to you, it is as if someone throws stones and boulders into the water. The water has to slow down to make it’s way through the tight stretches. It shows in the way that maybe you might experience pain, your motivation is lacking or you feel sad. Reiki helps to remove those boulders out of the water, so that you feel happy and well again.
Everyone has the natural ability to learn and use energy healing. One just has to choose to do it. But you don’t have to learn it to enjoy it.
